The VA is using a new system for case management and care to help with the processing of case information and assist in identifying and communicating with VA health care providers, according to a statement released today.
The new VA case management system, known as the Integrated Case Management System, or ICMS, was designed to support cases that involve: VA hospitals, care facilities, and medical facilities that provide services for VA patients; veterans and their dependents; caregivers; and other third-party providers that provide care to VA patients.ICMS provides an automated case management process that enables VA to provide the case information needed for its care coordination system and its related patient-focused resources, according the statement.VA will provide access to the new case management software via a free, trial, non-profit service.
The system will be available in the VA Health Information Technology Center and its website as well as through the VA’s online case management portal at www.va.gov/healthinformation.
The statement did not specify the time frame for the release of the software.
In September, the VA announced that it had expanded its use of the new system to include the VA Medical Facility System and the VA Healthcare System, which provides care to veterans and families.
The VA has been testing ICMS in collaboration with the National Institute of Health, the U.S. Department of Defense and the U,S.
